Aciu Travel (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates aciutravel.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
We are a small, Canadian-run travel content business. We are not a law firm, and this policy is not a substitute for legal advice. Given that Aciu Travel collects payment information for tour participants and marketing consent from readers, have a lawyer or accountant review this policy before it replaces your live one, particularly the sections on liability and tour participant data.

The short version
We collect your email address when you sign up for trip cost breakdowns or our newsletter. We collect basic site usage data through analytics. We never sell your information. We use a small number of named third-party tools to run the site, send email, and process affiliate links, listed below. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data at any time.
Information We Collect
When you subscribe to our email list or request a trip cost breakdown:
- Email address
- The route or content you selected (used only to send you the relevant breakdown and related content)
- Consent timestamp and IP address at signup, retained as proof of consent under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
When you browse the site:
- Standard usage data collected by Google Analytics (pages visited, time on page, approximate location by IP, device and browser type)
- Cookies, as described below
If you register for one of our group trips:
- Name, contact information, and payment details necessary to arrange your travel
- This information is shared with our tour operator partner solely to arrange logistics on your trip. We do not control our tour operator’s own data practices and recommend asking about their privacy practices separately before travelling.
If you contact us directly:
- Whatever information you choose to include in that message
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Why We Collect It (and Your CASL Consent)
Under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, we need your express consent before sending you commercial electronic messages, and we need to make that consent easy to give and easy to withdraw. Here is exactly what that looks like on this site:
- When you submit an email through one of our forms, you are giving express consent to receive the specific content you requested (for example, a route cost breakdown) plus occasional related emails about planning a trip to Europe.
- Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and stops all future marketing email from us.
- We keep a record of when and how you gave consent (timestamp, IP address, and the form used) in case we ever need to demonstrate compliance.
- We do not add you to our list through any means other than your own direct signup. We do not purchase, rent, or scrape email lists.
Beyond email, we use your information to:
- Operate and maintain the website
- Understand which content is useful so we can write more of it
- Respond to questions you send us directly
- Meet legal obligations if ever required by law
Third Parties We Use
We work with a small, named set of service providers to run this site. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, for any reason. Here is who processes what:

If we ever add a new tool that processes your data in a materially different way, we will update this list and note the change at the top of this page.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep the site functional and to understand how it’s used. On your first visit, CookieYes will ask you to choose which categories of cookies you’re comfortable with. You can change your preference at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer.
- Necessary cookies: required for the site to function. Cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: help us understand which pages are useful. Optional.
- Marketing/affiliate cookies: track referrals to our affiliate partners so we can earn a commission if you book through a link we’ve shared. Optional, though disabling these means we don’t get credited if you book through us, at no cost or benefit difference to you.
How Long We Keep Your Information
- Email list data is kept as long as you remain subscribed, plus a reasonable period after unsubscribing to maintain CASL consent records.
- Tour participant data is retained as needed to fulfill your booking and for a reasonable period afterward for tax and business record purposes.
- Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
You can ask us to delete your data at any time; see “Your Rights” below.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Our tools (MailerLite, Google Analytics, WPX Hosting) may store data on servers outside Canada, including the United States and the European Union. By using this site and submitting your information, you consent to this transfer. We choose providers with reasonable security practices, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights
You can, at any time:
- Unsubscribe from any email using the link in that email
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Ask us exactly which third parties have received your data

If we materially change how we collect or use your data, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, note it in our newsletter.
